Master Bedroom Makeover Updates

I'm on a mission to update our master bedroom, and we made a lot of progress last weekend.

You can see here where I started with updating the bedding. That made a huge difference. But, it definitely needed a lot more work.

Here are a few before pics...

See those lovely drips on the wall above the bed? That's where the plastic on the back of the frame MELTED. So attractive.

Obviously, we didn't get the room picture-ready, so the after pictures will be even MORE dramatic (I hope).

The best part about this makeover is that I used a lot of stuff we already had. Those pressed ferns are from Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta, and I got them framed at Hobby Lobby. We also have four pressed flowers hanging the den. We've had them for several months.

We did buy the mirror at Pier One over the weekend. It was a silver color, but I used Rub 'n Buff to make it gold, and I love the way it turned out.

That Lake Martin print on the left wall was a marital compromise. R.B. loves it, and since he's been so great with me taking over the house, I wanted to give him a little something to make him happy.

This corner was empty beforehand. I had the chair, table, and lamp in my old apartment. The basket is a wedding gift from Williams-Sonoma. That little quirky vase is from an estate sale in Montgomery. And, we bought the pillow over the weekend from World Market.

This is my favorite little part of the room. Those are watercolors of prominent buildings in Tuscaloosa. I got them at an antique mall there last year. I got the gate-leg table from Eastbrook Flea Market & Antique Mall a couple of years ago for a steal.

We used a Behr color match of Sherwin Williams Rice Grain paint-and-primer-in-one for the walls. It only took two coats, and we finished in a couple of hours.

So, there you have it. We still have the whole back wall to figure out.

Aren't the tv and dresser really sad looking by themselves?

And, we have this little gem to deal with. I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture, but those blades are seafoam green. When was that ever popular?

What do you think? Help me fill that back wall; I need your ideas! And, we'd love to see your home makeovers!

Master Bedroom Bedding Makeover

Ever since R.B. and I have gotten married (a month ago today!), I've wanted to update the master bedroom. It is definitely a bachelor's bedroom.

Sooo...while R.B. is out of town, I decided to start on the bedding. Surprise, R.B.!

I started looking online for bedding last week and couldn't really find anything I loved. So, this weekend while I was in Birmingham, I decided to run by Pottery Barn and check out what they had in the store. And bonus, they were having a bedding sale!

So last night, I stripped the boring gray bedding off the bed and replaced it with the beautiful linen Pottery Barn bedding!

The duvet, matching pillow shams, and three euro shams are from Pottery Barn. I need to get bigger pillows to fill out the blue shams, but they'll have to do for now. The two white/gold pillows are from Pier One, and the gold bow pillow is an old one I've had for awhile (I think it's from Kirkland's). I'm thinking I'll need to add some pillows or add a blanket/throw to the foot of the bed, but I'm much happier with it now.

Now that I've gotten the bedding figured out, I'm ready to jump right in to a complete overhaul of the room! I'm going to get Kelley to come over and help me figure out what else needs to be done, and we'll document the makeover on Z+M!

What do you think? How could I enhance the bedding even more?

Etsy Love

One of my very favorite sources for, well, ANYTHING is Etsy.  They have home decor, stationary, clothing and so much more.  What makes it even better?  I love that I'm buying handmade items directly from the maker!  (Which reminds me, don't forget to enter our Stately Made giveaway!)

Here are a few of my favorite finds as of late...

{I have this pillow and absolutely love it! Great colors and beautiful craftsmanship!}

I could browse Etsy every day and still find new things I want need.  I've purchased several items, including the veil I wore at my wedding, and have yet to have a bad experience.  Do you guys use Etsy?  Have you wanted to try it, but haven't yet?

Another reminder to enter our giveaway for a set of beautiful hand-lettered cards from Stately Made!  You definitely don't want to miss it!  Just go here.  Readers of Zelda + Madeline will also get 20% off with the special code listed in that post!

A Few of My Favorite Things, Part 2

I am so excited to share a few of my (current) favorite things!  If you missed Maeci's favorite things post yesterday, be sure to check it out!  Let's dive right in...

1.  Rodan + Fields Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask - If you followed me over at The Eclectic Owl, then you probably saw a recent post of mine on my favorite beauty products, and this absolutely made the list.  It's a little pricey, but a little goes a long way!  Plus, I use mine a few times a week alternating with my everyday cleanser (although, you could certainly use this as your everyday cleanser!).  It has made my skin look and feel amazing; it's softer and my pores are visibly smaller.  Just take my word for it and purchase immediately.

2.  Fossil Sydney Top Zip Crossbody Bag (in Camel) - I had been on the hunt for a great camel/cognac color smaller cross body bag.  I wanted one that I could still fit my hobo wallet in if needed, but that wasn't bulky and heavy.  This bag is perfection!  The color is beautiful and the inside has a zipper pocket, credit card holders and another open pocket.  The straps can also be completely removed so it can be used as a clutch.  Boom!

3.  One King's Lane Medallion Duvet Set (in Periwinkle) - Ok, let me just say that this was was my first purchase from One King's Lane and I will  definitely be purchasing again!  The duvet arrived super fast and they even added a thank you note along with my own set of cute thank you notes to use.  The duvet is a soft cotton, but it's durable as well.  The color is more of a cornflower blue and not periwinkle.  It's currently in our master bedroom and we absolutely love it (ok, I love it - I don't think Zach has a preference).  It's paired with these West Elm euro shams and this pillow (adorable, right? gah, maybe I should have added the pillow to this list!).

4.  Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette - I had been hinting (read: begging) for this palette for my birthday and my sweet momma delivered (technically, the UPS man delivered).  The colors are absolutely beautiful shades of rose golds that blend wonderfully together.  The eye shadows are high quality and I'm actually thinking about getting either the Naked or Naked 2 palette to add to my collection (I use Urban Decay's "Sin" color almost every day with a few of the Naked 3 colors).  The Naked 3 palette also came with a sample pack of four of the primers. I will absolutely be purchasing the original primer once I'm done squeezing the last bits out of the samples.

5.  Essie 'Splash of Grenadine' Nail Polish - This has been my go-to color for a few years now.  It's summery with a bit of pink, but not too much.  I almost always have it on my toes in the spring and summer months, and I always get compliments on the color.  So go buy it and be a cool kid like me.

6.  Stephanie Creekmur 'Hey y'all' Print - I can't even express to you how much I love this print.  I purchased several during Christmas time to give as gifts and made sure to keep one for myself (I give the best gifts).  Stephanie had it sent so quickly and there was a handwritten note inside the package when it arrived.  I'm a sucker for good customer service.  Mine currently hangs near our front door for guests to see as they walk in.  I just love having this sweet Southern saying in our home!

So, that's all of my favorite things.  For now.  I'm sure I'll have 15 new things by next week. Happy Thursday!
